The 7 Best Peel Pads For Every Budget and Skin Type

April 25, 2020

Peel pads are an easy way to exfoliate the skin so your complexion looks and feels glowing and smooth. They’re quick to use too, whisking away dead skin that can dull your complexion and block your skincare’s active ingredients from getting in. Plus, they’re the ideal pre-makeup prep step. Smooth an acid-soaked pad over your face, follow with your go-to serums and moisturiser and you’ll have created the perfect canvas for makeup.

Peel pads are expert-approved, too. Influencer and designer Lorna Luxe swears by the Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel Pads, whilst makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes will often prep her skin with the Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Pads, however, neither come cheap. But that doesn’t mean you can’t factor peel pads into your routine if you’re not in the position or mood to splurge, below I have pulled together the ultimate list of peel pads to suit every skin type and budget. Depending on how robust your complexion is, you may want to use the pads daily (like the Nip+Fab and Elemis pads that are designed for everyday application) or 2-3 times per week, so it’s worth taking that into account when looking at the price.

Of course, it would be remiss of me not to mention the elephant in the room here… peel pads are not exactly eco-friendly since you use each pad just once before binning it. If you’re trying to be more eco-conscious with your beauty routine then I have just the solution below, so you can still reap the peel pad benefits without the unwanted waste.

Keep scrolling for the best peel pads (and eco alternatives) to try.

Nip + Fab, £16.95

Nip + Fab, £16.95

Glycolic Fix Daily Cleansing Pads

60 pads = 28p each

These are such good value! Packed with glycolic acid (a potent AHA derived from sugarcane), as well as hydrating hyaluronic acid, these pads make light work of smoothing skin and leaving it looking dewy.

Sensitive skin beware, glycolic molecules are small which means they are super effective but can irritate delicate complexions.

Pixi, £24

Pixi, £24

Glow Peel Pads

60 pads = 40p each

A little gentler than the Nip+Fab pads (but still super effective) these contain glycolic acid alongside rosewater, aloe vera and Vitamin E to leave skin exfoliated and soothed. You work one of these pads gently over the skin, leave for 2-3 minutes and rinse with water to neutralise the acid.

Nip + Fab, £18.95

Glycolic Fix Extreme Night

60 pads = 32p each

A one-stop spot-busting pad, these are designed for congested complexions. The pads pack a punch with a combo of glycolic acid, hydrating lactic acid, pore unclogging salicylic acid and hydrating hyaluronic acid.

Dr Dennis Gross, £89

Alpha Beta Peel Extra Strength Formula

30 treatments = £2.96 each

The equivalent of an in-clinic facial peel, this two-step treatment is pricey but very good. The duo contain a cocktail of five AHAs and BHAs (glycolic, lactic, malic, citric and salicylic) alongside antioxidants ubiquinone and resveratrol and even retinol, which definitely helps to justify the price. You simply swipe the first pad over your skin, wait two minutes and then use the second neutralising pad. No rinsing required.

Elemis, £36

Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Pads

60 = 60p each

Makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes often uses these to smooth her skin and ramp up glow before applying makeup and, boy, do they work. Ideal for all skin types, even sensitive, to use daily, these pads are soaked in mild lactic acid (it has a larger molecule size than glycolic so it’s gentler) and a probiotic ferment complex to feed the skin’s good bacteria.

Murad, £40

Murad, £40

Rapid Resurfacing Peel

16 wipes = £2.50 each

If hyperpigmentation is a skin concern for you then these wipes are worth trying. They contain a blend of 10% glycolic acid, antioxidant Vitamin C, which has been proven to protect against blue light, and licorice root to brighten and prevent pigmentation production.

Malin + Goetz, £42

Resurfacing Glycolic Pads

50 = 84p each

These glycolic acid pads make light work of dull skin. Rub the pad over your skin, wait for 20 minutes and rinse off. Simple. You get a reassuring skin tingle without irritation and skin is left glowing and smooth.

Bambaw, £12.49

Reusable Make Up Pads

If the idea of pre-soaked, one-use, peel pads isn’t for you, then get yourself some of these re-useable, washable, cotton pads (if you don’t already have them) and use with an exfoliating toner.

Ren, £27

Ren, £27

Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic

The main acid in this toner is lactic acid that, as well as exfoliating, has the ability to act as a humectant, drawing moisture into the skin. It also contains skin-soothing willow bark and potassium azeloyl diglycinate, a derivative of azelaic acid that is antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory. This has a glorious citrus scent, which I love, but may be too much if you prefer unscented skincare.

Pixi, £18

Glow Tonic

The OG, this tonic contains  5% glycolic acid to exfoliate, energising red ginseng, aloe vera to soothe, as well as fructose and sucrose to brighten the skin.

Freck, £22

Cactus Water Cleansing Lactic Acid Toner

I’m hooked on this scent-free lactic acid toner that delicately exfoliates the skin. It’s gentle enough for even the most sensitive skins and, thanks to the addition of kelp extract, it tames any unwanted inflammation and redness. Cactus water is extremely hydrating, making it an ideal choice for parched complexions.
